Job Title: Lead Design Engineer (Electric)

Location: Hybrid – 3 days per week in Surrey

Salary: Up to £74,000 + Excellent Benefits

About the Role

 

We're looking for a Lead Design Engineer (Electric) to lead a team of Design Engineers responsible for the safe design and adoption of electricity networks. You'll oversee LV, HV and ideally EHV network designs, working closely with customers, developers, DNOs and internal stakeholders to deliver compliant, efficient and high-quality network solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to combine technical expertise with leadership, mentoring and strategic project delivery in a growing utilities business.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of Design Engineers.
  • Review and approve LV, HV and EHV electricity network designs.
  • Manage network connection applications with DNOs and upstream network operators.
  • Liaise with customers, developers and key stakeholders throughout project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with design, construction and safety standards.
  • Manage capacity and demand negotiations with upstream network operators.
  • Drive process improvements and support KPI performance.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for complex design queries.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and support continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Requirements

 

  • Experience designing LV and HV electricity networks.
  • Strong knowledge of design software such as WinDebut, IPSA or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of 2D CAD drawings.
  • Background within a DNO, IDNO or ICP environment.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring or supervising engineers.
  • Strong understanding of electricity network design standards and compliance.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and customer-facing skills.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
