Job Description

Job Title: Biodiversity Technical Director

Location: London (Hybrid, 3 days a week in the office)

Salary: £ 90 000 - £ 130 000

Benefits:

  • Performance-related bonus
  • Equity opportunity for the right candidate
  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Ongoing training and professional development support
  • Comprehensive wellbeing benefits

About the role:

Some of the world's biggest development projects – mines, energy plants, pipelines and new cities – are planned in places with extraordinary wildlife. Whether that nature is protected often depends on one question: Will the lenders fund it?

This is your chance to help shape that answer.

As Biodiversity Technical Director at a specialist ESG advisory firm, you'll advise lenders and developers on major projects in emerging markets, making sure the money that builds them also delivers real outcomes for nature and communities.

You'll lead a growing biodiversity practice, build the team around you, and have a genuine stake in the business's success. If you've done the hands-on PS6 work and want to lead where finance and nature meet, this is the step up.

Responsibilities:

  • Shape the strategy and growth of the biodiversity practice.
  • Advise lenders and developers on biodiversity risk across complex international projects.
  • Lead critical habitat assessments, Biodiversity Action Plans and Biodiversity Offset Management Plans that deliver results on the ground.
  • Be the trusted voice in the room with senior executives at banks and developers.
  • Win new work through proposals, client pitches and industry profile.
  • Build, coach and inspire a high-performing team.

Requirements:

  • Project finance and lender-side E&S experience.
  • Deep, practical knowledge of IFC Performance Standard 6.
  • Hands-on experience leading critical habitat assessments.
  • A track record of writing Biodiversity Action Plans and Biodiversity Offset Management Plans.
  • International experience, ideally in emerging markets.
  • Experience leading and developing technical teams.
  • Commercial instinct and experience winning work.
  • Collaborative and a confident communicator with senior clients.
  • Desirable: knowledge of other lender frameworks (Equator Principles, World Bank ESS6, EBRD, AfDB).
